Bootleggers

During the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, the associated restrictions forced the temporary closure of The Bothy Bistro. As a result we created Bootlegger’s Bothy at West Beach Caravan Park in Hopeman. This involved converting some shipping containers to provide a fully fitted commercial kitchen – complete with open fire grills. Dory the Double Decker was closed due to social distancing restrictions but Peggy our Citroen H Van became the bar serving local craft beer on draught. We added a marquee and some picnic benches and served everything from lobster rolls and monkfish scampi to smoked brisket and the monolithic Bootlegger Burger, all outside in the fresh sea air.

Bootleggers closed for the season on 25th October and the team moved back indoors to The Bothy Bistro, Burghead for the winter. We continue to serve some Bootlegger favourites from The Bothy Bistro as we have introduced a separate ‘Bootlegger’s Take-Away Menu’.

We hope to open Bootlegger’s Bothy again in April 2021 so please follow us on social media for more updates.

Bootleggers featured in the national press and attracted many food critics, bloggers and reviews over the summer of 2020. The Scotsman rated it 83%, a high score amongst some famous Scottish restaurants. You can find the review here.
